Towering

So--this is a little different than what I usually do...and a bit of a risk for me, artistically, I suppose. It is my entry to the Make Ugly contest. I HATE cigarettes. Aside from the fact that they make my asthma flare up, I don't like seeing my friends doing something that will eventually harm or kill them. :c

At any rate, that is mostly why I have entered. I have depicted the Tobacco Industry as the towering giant that it is, but also as a monster, which in my opinion, it also is. This monster shows clearly what can happen to someone who smokes, its lungs dripping with tar, but people still flock to it gladly. I've depicted the people as kids/teens, because that's vulnerable age to get hooked. It looks cool, they deal with peer pressure, etc.. They know the dangers, but they go anyway.

They are faceless, because this is how I feel many big corporations view the people who buy their products. They aren't kids who might die of lung cancer. They aren't babies who might develop asthma and other problems because their mothers smoked while pregnant. They are just faceless people that give them money.

As for the background, I know factories have nothing to do with smoking cigarettes, but that's what I personally feel like when I walk into a room where a few people (or even one sometimes) are smoking. It chokes me, stirs up my asthma, and is as much pollution to a room as factories are to the atmosphere.
