This picture was made for Artistic Aun Juli's quick-paint challenge...we were supposed to draw something from the fandom that has most inspired us...and explain why.
Harry Potter was not even close to the *first* fandom that inspired me...but it has been the most influential, I think. The Harry Potter books weren't just books...they weren't just stories. They were whole worlds, *one* whole world that drew me within its boundaries from the first page.
I made friends and enemies, I shared their triumphs and sorrows and defeats. I called Draco Malfoy rude names. I learned to like Hermione the same way Ron and Harry did. Harry's world and Harry's journey is one of the richest and most vivid I have ever shared, and naturally it inspired my art, among other things.
So here I have Harry facing away from the symbols of his struggles...the stone from book one, the diary from book two, the Marauder's Map from book three, the Goblet of Fire from book four, a DA coin from book five, the locket from book six, and the symbol for the Deathly Hallows...symbolizing the last leg of Harry's childhood. He has put them behind him but he's not finished...he's looking ahead to his own future.
I put him in his uniform for school because it symbolizes the qualities of the house he was Sorted into: bravery, chivalry, and honor. He'll never wear the uniform again, but he won't shed the virtues when he leaves Hogwarts.
And for the fans, the journey hasn't stopped either...and it won't for a good long time.
Edit: Wow - I won the quickfire challenge! Thanks so much to the judges!! I'm honored! Also very glad, as words don't always come to me the way I want them to. but they did this time. So I was very pleased.
Oh, and I fixed the capital letters that I missed on the initial submission. They were all h's for some odd reason...apparently I can't coordinate the Shift key and H so well, LOL.
Edit: Somehow I seem to have managed to chop off part of Harry's wand arm and sleeve...that is now fixed. Sheesh.
(I have dedicated this one to # 10 of the =FanArt100 list.)
Sorry, but.... erm.... Scar Night and Twilight are more addicting than Harry Potter.... And a little better.....

Well, that's a matter of opinion, isn't it? : ) Some people might agree with you and some might not. And no one would be right. Or, rather, everyone would be right for them. Whatever they think is best...is for them. And that's all that really matters.
Thanks for the fav. : )

*phew* I was scared that you'd hate me. I still think Harry Potter's great, but.... The series is kinda... over... not much to squee over anymore, so I moved on to other stuff.
You're welcome!

Well I won't deny I thought the comment was a little...rude. Not the place for it, as this project was supposed to be what most inspires the artist...in this case what most inspires me.. Phrased as it was it did seem a little...strong. There are plenty who *have* moved on to other stuff, and that's great. but questions of "better" are really a matter of perspective.
For me, "over" doesn't mean much. I am still a rabid fan of the Dark Tower books, and the ThunderCats TV show and things like Star Wars, which are over also. It's all in how people think.
But no, I don't hate you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I was just a bit taken aback by your...passion about it. : )

I'm sorry!! I don't try to be rude, I have a headache, I can't think right right now.....

It's no huge biggie. : ) But as you were honest I wanted to be also. It's kinda like I would never go to this (REALLY AWESOME) picture of Jack Sparrow that I favorited a few weeks ago and say "Sorry, but Harry Potter's better than pirates of the Caribbean". I would consider that very rude. I hope I have made sense! : ) I don't always.
Anyway, I hope the headache eases. : )

Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
