Lost Legends 20Chapter 20: Trial by FireLost Legends 20 by hyenacub
Kaikara was woken by the sensation of something wet poking her in the ear. A startled chill going through her body, she sat up clumsily, lashing out with her hand. Her hand hit something, but by the squeak, she had hit Trow by accident.
"Owww!" he groaned, his voice whiny with sleep.
"Sorry," said Kaikara, trying to force her mind to wake up. There was another squeak, but not from Trow. She blinked sleep out of her eyes and focused on what must have been sticking its nose in Kaikara's ear. It was a little creature that seemed to lope along the ground without the aid of feet. It was hunched up as if in agitation, and Kaikara thought that she had probably scared it, too. "Hey," she said softly, laughing a little. "It's okay…what a weird little thing!" She slowly extended her hand toward the creature, as she usually did when meeting a new animal, but the thing hunched its back yet more and opened its mouth.
Kaikara drew away, thinking it m

Tempa had disappeared from sight before either Kaikara or Trow could manage to speak. "Link's grandson?" said Trow, scratching his head.
Kaikara spoke slowly, as if in a dream. "Yeah…." The enormity of what Tempa said had hit her and she felt like she had been hit by a dragon. This time they were in, this land, was within the very first century of Hyrule's very existence…the kingdom so many people took as a matter of fact, something that had just always been there, was no more than a quarter of a year old.
She knew the Link legends. She had argued often with Nyree about whether they were fact or myth, and now she stood among the aftermath of that legend. She stood in the middle of what had once been called the Sealed Grounds, where the great apocalypse had lain, buries and confined, until the day when its servant Ghirahim, had set force to capture the spirit maiden.
"Demise," said Trow.
Kaikara looked at him, frowning a little. "What?"

No enemy waited for them on the other side of the gateway. No freezing wind or falling boulders, or anything of the like. The two of them seemed to be standing inside an ancient temple, a beautiful place made of stone walls, with arches and doorways…and the Time Gate. Here, in this time, the gate was a monstrous thing of lights and angles and dizzying optical illusions. Trow fell almost immediately, unable to find his balance while standing in the tunnel-like doorway. Kaikara, fighting not to lose her own balance, grabbed his arm and propelled them onto the stone platform that led to the gateway.
Someone was waiting for them. At first, Kaikara thought it was Ghirahim, and she hissed furiously, tightening her grip on the Master Sword and raising it in defense. The figure before her blinked, stepped back, and raised his hands in a gesture of non-aggression. “Easy, kid,” he said, his tone soft a

The thing did not waste any time. Either it had eyes that Kaikara could not see or it had other senses, but as soon as she spoke, the tentacle dove at them like a spear, knocking them both sprawling onto the stone. Trow let a cry of startled fear and Kaikara groaned as she hit the wall behind her. She managed to keep a hold of her sword and when the thing darted at them again, she took a wild swipe at it.
Whatever it was, it could feel pain. There came a sound that was not quite a sound, but a vibration in the room she could feel more than hear, and the tentacle jerked back from her. Thick, clear liquid seeped from the wound. It looked like mucus.
Trow made a sound of disgust and grabbed his bow, but when he reached back for his arrows, his hand found nothing; he was finally out of arrowa. A look of panic crossed his face as Kaikara got hastily to her feet. “Stay back!” she said, glancing at h
